The Department of Geology, Paleontology and Fossil Fuels is already an owner of a new modern microscope ZEISS Axioscope as part of the project “Late Alpine tectonic evolution of the Rhodope metamorphic complex and sequence of extensional and compressional events after the middle Eocene” with Assoc. Prof. Neven Georgiev as a leader. The microscope will be used mainly for fission-track dating, microstructural and petrographic studies. A new stage in the application of low-temperature thermochronology in Bulgaria is just starting.
