Тhe Department of Geology, Paleontology and Fossil Fuels is one of the two departments in the field of Geology in Sofia University. The department includes twelve lecturers – four professors, six associate professors and two assistant professors. There are three people as administrative and technical staff.The main courses in the department are Fundamentals of Geology, Paleontology, Stratigraphy, Historical geology, Structural geology and Geotectonics, Geology of Bulgaria, Geological mapping, Oil and gas geology, Coal geology. Several practical courses are organized – Fundamentals of Geology, Paleontology and Stratigraphy, Geological mapping, Structural geology, Geology of Bulgaria.
Тhe Department of Geology, Paleontology and Fossil Fuels offers Bachelor’s degree programme in Geology and Master’s degree programmes in Geology and Paleontology, Paleontology and Bio-Stratification (for Biology BAs) and Applied Economic Geology (together with the Department of Mineralogy, Petrology and Economic Geology).
